Asterisk®

Asterisk is an Open Source project, originally authored by Mark Spencer of Digium, which essentially recreates the PBX call switching platform in a software environment. Asterisk is unique in that it is interoperable with a huge number of devices and numerous protocols, including SIP, IAX, T1, E1, ISDN, PRI, FXO, and FXS. All of these protocols are also supported by PBXtra. Asterisk is what we consider the "OS of the PBX" and is responsible for much of the core call routing/switching that occurs within the PBXtra Hybrid IP PBX.

 

 

 

 
PBXtra™
 
  PBXtra™ is the software that resides on top of the Asterisk® platform.  The PBXtra™ allows the end user to use drop down menus for call routing, call recording and day to day maintenance of their telephone system.  PBXtra™ is the most user friendly and easy to use software that has been released for Asterisk®.
